Van insurance advice
![]()
Excellent cover for commercial vehicles is essential as often van owners are self-employed and their income depends on their vehicle being roadworthy.
Here are a few tips to assist you to keep your van safe and your insurance premium as low as possible:
- Wherever possible keep your vehicle in a locked garage.
- Fit a Thatcham approved immobiliser or tracker as in some cases this can reduce your premium by up to 7.5%.
- Increasing your excess can reduce your premium.
- The less drivers there are on the policy the cheaper the premium, therefore try and put named drivers on the policy rather than opting for an 'any driver' policy.
- Try and avoid adding young drivers to the policy.
- Wherever possible try and avoid making claims. For example, if the cost of the repair is less than £300.00 and your excess is £150.00 be aware that your premium will rise at renewal due to the claim and possible loss of no claim bonus, which may make claiming not financially viable for you in the long run.
- Often your van insurance policy does not insure the tools and goods whilst in the vehicle, to avoid having to unload your van each night ask us about our Goods in Transit insurance.
