SPEEDING IS 'MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH'
Speeding is commonplace among drivers even though it is a factor in more than half of all road accidents, according to new government figures.
They suggest that over 50 per cent of motorists regularly break the 70 miles per hour (mph) speed limit on motorways and 19 per cent of drivers average more than 80 mph.
However, Scotland's East Coast Safety Camera Partnership (ECSCP) is hoping to stress that being caught speeding does not just mean penalty points, it could also kill.
Fleet News Net reports that the ECSCP is calling on companies to do more to tackle the culture of speeding. The new campaign could help to reduce deaths as well as lowering business related expenses such as vehicle depreciation and business driver insurance.
It is estimated that in the East Coast region of Scotland over 100 company vehicles are caught spending each day – adding up to around 40,000 per year.
The ECSCP has issued a leaflet that provides a range of information on how to crackdown on employer speeding, including details of permitted speed limits and the consequences of being caught breaking the law.
