DRIVERS SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE WORLD CUP
Football fans are being encouraged to use their vehicles to show their support for the nation's forthcoming World Cup campaign.
From next week, fans will be able to purchase DVLA number plates with a special ENG tagline alongside either 06 or 51 to help encourage and support Sven's men.
The 51 ENG can be used to represent England's five-one victory over their old rivals and World Cup hosts Germany, while the 06 ENG series refers to this year's campaign.
Fans can then choose which two letters to feature alongside the serious plates, for example a David Beckham fan could opt for DB06 ENG.
"The five-one win was arguably England's finest moment since winning the World Cup 40 years ago," said DVLA's publicity manager Louise Pierpoint.
"More and more people seem to choose number plates to celebrate something good in their lives so why not use them to get behind the England team. Rooney or no Rooney, we've got a great team that is capable of going all the way to the final."
However, there are fears that the plates could attract unwanted attention from non-English fans, so vehicle owners are reminded to make sure their modified car insurance cover is up to date.
It is expected that around 1,000 of the special plates will be made available, with prices starting at around £499 each.
Those hoping to show their support with such a patriotic plate can save money for the purchase while protecting their prized possession by taking out cheap car insurance.
